点评:Visiting the Turtle Hatchery in Hikkaduwa was both an educational and heartwarming experience. The small facility is home to several species of sea turtles, many of which are rescued from injuries or hatched safely away from predators. It was wonderful to see the conservation efforts being made to protect these endangered creatures.
The staff were friendly, informative, and clearly passionate about their work. They explained the different types of turtles, how they are cared for, and the steps taken to release them safely back into the ocean. You can even see baby turtles up close, and if you visit during the right time, you might get a chance to release them into the sea an unforgettable experience!
The entry fee was very reasonable (around 500–1000 LKR), and it helps support the hatchery's ongoing efforts. Donations are also welcome.
We spent about 45 minutes to an hour there. It’s not a large place, but every moment was engaging. The atmosphere was peaceful and humble. It’s not a flashy tourist spot, but it feels genuine and meaningful.
It wasn’t too crowded when we visited (mid-morning), which made the experience more enjoyable and allowed time to interact with the staff.Extremely kind and knowledgeable. They patiently answered all our questions and clearly love what they do.
Families, animal lovers, kids, and anyone interested in marine conservation.
Highly recommend making a quick stop here if you’re in Hikkaduwa especially if you want your visit to make a positive impact.
