玛丽罗斯号博物馆，朴茨茅斯古代造船厂的点评
点评：I remember watching the Mary Rose being lifted from the depths way back in 1982, including the breath taking moment the cradle dropped! Some 42-ish years later, I visited Portsmouth Historic Dockyard specifically to see HMS Victory—although she was under wraps for conservation, she was everything I expected and more.
What I didn't expect was the beauty in the way the Mary Rose is displayed, it really is a work of genius. How one third of one side of a ship can invoke passion and awe is simply a credit to everyone involved in finding her, raising her, conserving her and displaying her.
I spoke with one of the curators who was so engaging and had all the time in the world to share his wonderful knowledge of the Mary Rose with me. He made me wish I'd have taken one of the guided tours.
There are 3 levels and you enter the middle level. That's when the goose bumps start. You then follow the route to the bottom level and just as the goose bumps begin to fade, you are finally guided to the top level of the Mary Rose - and as you leave the airlock, the goose bumps start all over again.
As I said, the display is hauntingly beautiful and a work of genius.
When I entered Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, I almost hesitated at the cost. When leaving this wonderful place (with my ticket valid for 12 months) and seeing all the conservation work to protect our history for future generations, it admission fee is worth every single penny. And more.
