点评:Hidden gem! This is about a 20min bus journey from Peterborough City Centre, but unfortunately only open on Mondays and Thursdays. This is absolutely worth a visit for the cottage itself, the gardens and the village walk (ask one of the friendly staff to reset your audio guide for the village tour). The cottage is beautifully conserved and decorated to recreate the life and experiences of John Clare. The stairs up and down in the cottage are quite difficult even for somebody with perfectly good legs but for those who struggle with mobility there is a video tour alternative available. The village tour is also mindful of accessbility needs, with an alternative provided for the footpath section of the walk. I'd never heard of John Clare before I came here and as well as learning a lot I really enjoyed myself - highly recommended especially if you are fan of English literature and history. The gardens were pleasant even on a chilly day, and the dovecote was unique and well worth a visit. I would recommend 2-3 hours to see everything here including the village walk (at the end of the tour, John Clare's grave, be sure to take some time to explore the interior of the beautiful St Botolph's church!). Helpston is a beautiful village - the Cotswolds of Peterborough - and makes for a pretty and peaceful day out.
