点评:I was determined to find a place truly off the beaten path—far from the many tourist traps scattered around Iquitos. I wanted to feel the Amazon. And after 12 hours and roughly 250 miles of travel, Tapiche absolutely delivers.
Tapiche is a magical place filled with raw beauty, untouched wilderness, and countless hidden gems. The only signs of human presence are the thoughtfully curated trail systems, carefully woven through dense jungle by the very people who guide you along them.
Aidan was an exceptional guide who seems to know the name, history, and purpose of nearly every plant and animal in the Amazon. He may not be a nonstop conversationalist, but he’s a legitimate biologist who has clearly found his passion. Ask questions and he’s more than happy to share his deep knowledge. David, a local from a nearby village, made sure we were well fed every day. Segundo worked tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure everything ran smoothly, and Josh—a super cool volunteer with a weather-sealed camera, a heart of gold, and no alarm clock—used his expertise in insects to make sure I didn’t miss the smaller (and often overlooked) critters.
I happened to be the only guest during my stay, but Aidan and the team made sure I had the full experience, as if there were ten other guests alongside me.
Beyond the unforgettable adventure, Tapiche is doing truly important work in its corner of the Amazon. They regularly confront poachers (don’t worry—you’re safe), save tens of thousands of turtles each year, and make daily contributions to rainforest conservation that most people only dream of.
Skip the piranha fishing, Monkey Island, and luxury treehouses. If you want a real adventure, don’t mind roughing it for a few days, and want your money to support something meaningful—go to Tapiche.
