Fantastic afternoon visit from Oban - lunch, views and history!
Dunollie Museum, Castle and Grounds的点评
点评：If you're staying in Oban or passing through this is a great spot to visit. It's a lovely walk from the town or you can drive. There is a fantastic cafe at the entrance (which you can use even if you're not going to visit the castle and museum). Great for coffees, cakes and lunch.
My favourite parts about my visit were the view from the castle and the staff. The view from the castle ruins is spectacular - it's a beautiful walk through the grounds to the castle (the hill will be covered in bluebells soon - I'd love to go back for that) and you're rewarded at the top with a panoramic view of the islands. You can climb up into the tower.
I had a tour with Flora who was a wealth of information and had lots of entertain tales to tell us. All of the staff and volunteers I met were friendly, welcoming and obviously passionate about Dunollie. It's run by a Trust (Dunollie Preservation Trust), and all income from the site goes towards the upkeep and running of the castle, museum and grounds. It's a big job to keep the site going, so it's nice to feel that my visit helps support the heritage of the area.
And if you're anyway related to Clan MacDougall, it's a must visit!
Oh and there's a great playpark outside for kids and a fantastic one in the woods of the grounds.
