点评：Reaching the Monastery (Ad Deir) in Petra was one of the most rewarding moments of our entire visit. It’s a bit of a mission to get there — a steady climb of hundreds of steps — but every single step is worth it the moment the Monastery comes into view.
Emerging at the top and seeing this enormous façade carved straight into the rock is genuinely jaw-dropping. Even if you’ve already seen the Treasury, the Monastery feels on another level entirely. It’s wider, more imposing, and somehow even more dramatic, especially with the surrounding mountains framing it.
What we loved most was the sense of space. Compared to Petra’s lower sites, the area around the Monastery feels open and calm, giving you time to sit, breathe, and really take it all in. We spent a while just wandering around, grabbing a drink, and soaking up the views across the valley — which might just be some of the best in Petra.
The Monastery isn’t just a photo stop; it’s an experience. Yes, the climb is tough, especially in the heat, but the sense of achievement and the scale of what you’re standing in front of make it unforgettable. If you’re visiting Petra and wondering whether the hike is worth it — trust us, it absolutely is.
