点评:On my first full day in Norway, intimidated by the sight through my hotel window of so much falling snow, I layered up and got outside (not so scary after all, when one is clothed properly). I walked over the Tromsøbrua (Tromsø Bridge), from Tromsø to Tromsødalen, to visit the Arctic Cathedral.
This church is an architectural wonder in a modern style. I love the stained glass behind the altar. The incorporation of the soldering as an artistic element I'd not previously found used to such an extent. It made me think of the amazing 1960s construction workers who implemented Jan Inge Hovig's architectural vision for Tromsdalen Church's inauguration in 1965. The Cathedral ceiling naturally leads one to look up to the heavens (whether you believe or not).
I sat down around 2:45pm. At 3pm, an organist began playing music, and I was treated to a surprise organ recital for the next hour. This was a terrific visit for me.
FRIENDLY WARNING: pedestrians need to walk over the Tromsø bridge in either direction on the south side! I made the mistake of walking back on the north side of the bridge, which is reserved for bicyclists. LESSON LEARNED: when in a country strange to me, I need to read the signs!! Literally and figuratively :-)
