I took the train from Copenhagen Central to Helsingør—it’s about an hour each way and cost me around 78 DKK (about $12). From the station, it’s a nice 20-minute walk to Kronborg Castle, a beautiful Renaissance spot known as the setting of Shakespeare’s Hamlet.
Inside, the underground prison was pretty cool, especially with the sculpture of the castle’s legendary guardian. The Baltic Sea surrounds the castle, making it a bit windy and chilly, but it adds to the atmosphere.
I even bought a pair of “Hamlet socks” — to be or not to be stylish, right? Now I’m excited to finally finish reading the play. It was a simple, memorable trip full of history and that classic Shakespearean vibe.
