点评:We came here for breakfast but not all the food stalls had opened by the time we arrived (about 7.30am). Most places outside the food court area seemed to offer very similar rice bowls, typically involving salmon roe and/or sea urchin, or included crab. Prices typically started around 2200 yen for a regular size, but some stores occasionally offered smaller bowls for about 1000 yen. I had been hoping for the type of rice bowl where you walk around and choose your own sashimi and other toppings, which we’d encountered in Kushiro (kattedon) and would later find again in Aomori (nokkedon), so I was somewhat disappointed that it wasn’t the case here. We eventually settled for some salmon and ikura, and squid and shrimp tempura, along with a side of buttered corn. All agreed that the food was good, and the squid was nice and tender, not at all chewy.
The market seemed to have a strong focus on crab and squid, and didn’t seem to have as wide a range of fresh seafood offerings as we’ve seen in other places. The catch-your-own squid stall had a queue for it already by the time we arrived. I’m sure it’s super fresh, but it seemed quite gimmicky and aimed towards the tourists. I probably wouldn’t come back here if we were ever in Hakodate again.
