点评:Tuesday 13th May and we visited here as one of the itinerary stops on our Hakone Ropeway and Lake Ashi Tour.
We did drive around some of the lake as we made our way to visit Hakone Shrine.
However, our first sightings of the Lake were as rode up and down on the Hakone Ropeway.
Our Guide informed us that the lake is 43 metres deep, it was once a river but a volcanic eruption turned it into a lake. It has a circumference of 20 kilometres (12 miles)
We were told that one of the most iconic views here is the reflection of Mount Fuji in the lake, sadly due to the weather conditions it was not happening today.
Another highlight is the Torii Peace Gate along the shore of the Lake. We did visit the Torii, reviewed separately, there were lengthy queues for photographs. We took the opportunity to walk around a little bit of the Lake and it's surrounding forest.
There are a number of hiking routes around the area. There are boat tours, in various types of boat, around the Lake. We did actually see swan shaped pedalos to hire and take out on the Lake.
