点评:Atsuta Shrine is one of the most important Shinto shrines in Japan as it’s where the Kusanagi no Tsurugi is supposedly enshrined—the sword is one of the three Japanese Imperial Regalia. Like most such key shrines, it’s surrounded by a leafy park and oasis and so you’ll feel like you’re in another world the moment you walk through the Torii gate. I certainly did and loved the experience.
The wooden shrines buildings are fantastically picturesque too, while the mini sword museum, located in a modern annexe, gives you the change to “test” the weight of ancient Japanese swords. As for transportation, it’s a 5 -7 minutes walk from Exit 2 of Atsuta Jingu Nishi subway station. The route is very straight forward and you’ll know where to turn when you see the Torii gate.
PS: Many displays and signs here do not have English text. I strongly recommend you read up online before visiting, especially the legend of Kusanagi.
