点评:Hida Folk Village (Hida no Sato) is a wonderful open air museum. There are over 30 traditional houses from the Hida region which is a mountainous area around Takayama. These houses were built during the Edo Period (1603-1868) but were relocated from their original locations to create the museum in 1971. There buildings like a village head's house, logging huts, storehouses and a number of gassho-zukuri farmhouses, which are named after their steep thatched roofs resembling a pair of hands joined in prayer ("gassho"). We spent a whole morning here wandering around the village, learning about the culture and the history of this area. There is lots of information, both in Japanese and English, so the visitor can get a good idea of what they are seeing. This is an excellent exhibition. A wonderful open air Museum.
