姬路城的点评
点评：One of the best preserved castles in Japan. Hard to believe that much of the original structure survived all the wars and earthquakes since it was built in 1333. The original wooden beams and floors are intact and refurbished. If you take the train to Himeji, the castle gate entrance is about 20-30 min walk from the station. We visited on a Monday in November, arrived at 10 am, and there were several Japanese tour groups visiting. It could get busy on a weekend.
Tip: if it is raining, there is a covered walking street (MiyuKidori) one block east of the main road(Otemae Street), leading to the castle--lots of stores and eateries on MiyuKidori and worth look on the way there or back to the train station.
Tip: you have to take off your shoes inside the castle, so wear comfortable socks, they provide plastic bags for you to put your shoes in while walking inside the castle (or you can bring your own bag or backpack).
Tip: A good idea is to read the brochure (in many languages) before entering the interior of the castle so you know what exhibits to see inside.
To go all the way up, you have to climb 6 flights of stairs (the stairs are narrow, steep, and sometimes uneven)--there are usually handrails. The interior is full of interesting exhibits and, but you have to take your time to look for them. It can get a bit crowded inside.
Tip: There is a paid electric train that can transport you round trip or one way near the train station to the castle entrance.
There are multiple buildings and walls outside of the castle, so there is a lot of see if you have the time.
