Lovely local nature reserve perfect for a spare morning

点评：It's been a couple of decades since I last went to Wolseley, so I dropped by on a warm and bright Sunday morning to check it out.
It's pretty easy to get to by car, just be aware that some of the drive is single-track to get in and out. There's a voluntary parking charge (£1.80 for two hours, £3 for all day) that you can pay via card or cash in the shop.
The walk itself was indeed pleasant! All walking loops are less than a kilometre in length, so it's definitely more of a place to wander than a hike. On the plus side it's perfect for families with young children, and the wildlife is a great draw for photographers. The friendly staff in the visitors' centre have maps to hand, but it's difficult to get lost. Just watch out for the nettles, some of them are particularly spicy!
Flocks of ducks and geese live on the lakes and rivers, most of them used to humans - just wear good walking shoes even on a dry day as you'll naturally be stepping in a lot of their muck! Sadly I didn't spot any kingfishers but I did see a heron out on the lake... and a few squirrels taking advantage of the feeders. If you're eagle-eyed you might even spot some frogs and toads. The gift shop (larger than I expected) sells reasonably-priced bird feed at £1.50 a bag, and I was happy to see that fellow visitors kept their Hovis at home or at least for their own sandwiches.
Speaking of food, there's rave reviews about the Kingfisher cafe and it did look good with plenty of seating and food options, but I didn't stop to refuel on this occasion. The toilets, shop and the cafe were all kept clean and tidy.
If you've got some extra energy in your legs you can take a pedestrian pathway to the well-stocked garden centre next door.
Would happily visit again.
