点评:This place is pure heaven!!!
So here’s how we explored & exactly how I would recommend others visiting 😊
So, Old Roar Gill is interlinked with Alexandra Park & a few reservoirs. I would recommend parking in Dordrecht Way which is free on road parking. This way you can experience the reservoirs & park as well as the waterfalls. From parking explore the additional part of the park (either on your left or right, depending which way parking). Very pretty with lots of pretty waterways/ponds and lakes etc & a kids play park. From here head into the main part of the park and head along the pathways which lead to the miniature railway and beyond to Buckshole reservoir, you can also branch out to Harmers pond & Shornden reservoir if you fancied it. Keep heading past Buckshole (on the east path) & you will eventually hit a sign for Old Roar Gill.
Now this is where it can get tricky…
Take the left pathway, now the tricky part (currently) is the main pathway is closed due to issues with the cliffside falling! No way we were missing out! Continue past the 1st closed sign (over the bridge) then take the stairs on the left up to a more well trodden path. If you carry on you will reach barriers, trust me we tried 😂 This path leads you to the main bridge, follow the path over the bridge then cut down the small pathway on the other side (it’s tucked away so keep your eyes peeled). This pathway down the otherwise will lead you all the way past multiple smaller waterfalls then onto the big one. It took us a long time to figure this all out! Tbh it was so quiet because clearly people saw closed signs & left 😂
It’s STUNNING! BUT! This is no way wheelchair or buggy worthy. It’s VERY muddy & the problem is if there hasn’t been any rain there won’t be any waterfalls, so you need to visit after heavy rainfall. It’s not the safest walk in the world so I would even say it’s not suitable for younger children. WEAR WALKING BOOTS OR WELLIES!! The whole walk took is 2 hours but we got so lost trying to find an alternative way… Could easily be done in around an hour 😊
