点评:The imperial East Gardens is a historical garden housing Tokyo imperial Palace. The gardens were first used by the Tokugawa Shogunate. The garden was built on the grounds of Edo Castle. It was used by feudal lords who came to stay at the castle. The modern gardens were built in 1961. The gardens as we know them today were completed in 1968. There is a model in the garden of the once very grand castle. It was destroyed several times and finally was not rebuilt. The foundations are left and the walls surrounding the garden and some of the moat surrounding the garden speak to the history in this setting. There is also a small visitor center where one can see film footage of the current royal family. This is a beautiful setting in the middle of Tokyo. As it is the grounds of the home of the current emperor, it was worth a visit. One cannot see the home of the Emperor as it is private, it was a beautiful stop on our tour.
