点评：Free to enter yet somehow we missed the main entrance. Instead we entered the yellow parched field from Lodge Hill. We parked at the back and strolled across the cattle grids. We found a steep path up (passing the cows) to The Temple and ambled across and down to the visitors centre and Sheringham Courtyard Café. Seating was also available in the coolness of the second hand book library where we paused alone for a short video. It explained how Repton was the successor to Lancelot "Capability" Brown - who'd tell his clients that their property had "capability" for improvement. Humphry Repton, initially a jack of all trades, finally settled combining his love of sketching with his botanical knowledge. It was he who coined the term "landscape gardener". Repton's 1803 quote "the thorn is the mother of the oak" has become a tenant of rewilding, where thorny plants are used to protect young native saplings from over browsing by rabbits and deer. The well frequented café served the best cake: Victoria sponge and Coffee Walnut side-by-side! How could we choose and both were delicious. There were just a few seats empty, under parasols. Dogs were welcome and splayed in the shade. Modern toilets, bright and impeccably clean, had their own building. A high point on our return, was stumbling upon the Ling Hut, unfortunately we missed both towers - though it is good to save a few delights for a return visit. It was a truly beautiful place even out of rhododendron season!
