点评:We are rating this as a "4" as most visitors would do the same, but for others, they will either be highly engage or largely indifferent.
The Millbrook Cultural and Heritage Centre focuses on the history of the Miqmaw natives from prehistoric times up to the present. Within that broad expanse, much of the emphasis is on the period of contact with first the French and then the British, with history within Canada afterward.
The museum sits at the edge of a commercial shopping area, but it turns out that all of it is owned by the Miqmaw members as a result of shrewd negotiations with the Canadian government.
The facility itself is well designed and well laid out. The admission price is modest. Take advantage of the 18-minute or so video. I'm not much of a fan of these videos, but this one is very well done and gives you a good flavor for the rest of the exhibits.
As an aside, fans of Stephen King and the book "Pet Sematary" in particular will be surprised to hear that the name if not "Micmac", but it pronounced something closer to "Micmaw". This was a peaceable group that relied more on peace and trade with others rather than combat. I'll leave it to the exhibits to explain what eventually happened.
The materials in this museum are well curated with interesting descriptions. Outside is an enormous statue of the mythical figure Glooscap, which provides ample fodder for photos.
The gift shop is full of all kinds of original materials.
We spent around an hour here. If you have any interest in local history or native culture, this is an excellent place to start.
