One of the best museums we’ve seen anywhere in the world!
国立科学博物馆的点评
点评：This is an absolute MUST DO in Ueno Tokyo! (Don’t confuse this with the Miraikan Science Myseum - which by the way is also awesome). This is the one located in Ueno Park next to the National Museum).
Every child in the world should have access to a museum like this! And every adult too. It’s SO well set up and informative! Everything is very well described in English and the way it is presented and displayed is super easy to follow and visually amazing! I must have said “WOW” a hundred times!
Everything is well maintained. The Japan section seems to be the older of the two and in the older building but should not be missed as the displays are up to date and equally amazing!
The museum is divided in two parts in two interlinked buildings; Japan Gallery, and World Gallery. In the Japan section it’s all about Japan and in the world section it is all about the entire world and how Japan fits into all of it.
They start off with the simplest life form, go through the ages and evolution of life until the very latest in technology. You’ll see fossils, dinosaurs, the first computers, space travel, earthquakes, seismographs through the ages, observing cosmic rays with a cloud chamber, how civilizations developed, how we spread out across the world, see life size animals that look so real, it’s hard to believe they’re not. There is an entire floor dedicated to an interactive play area for children to learn and explore.
It took us 4 hours to work our way through it and we didn’t see and read everything. It’s massive! All up 11 floors of awesome and not a single floor should be missed! I’d say just set the day aside and take your time.
