点评:I ended up visiting Ritsurin Garden twice, as I missed seeing the North Garden on my first visit (I came too close to closing time), and didn't want to miss an inch of this beautiful place. On my first visit, I meandered around the South Garden, then went through it again following the numbers on the map. I'd recommend following the map by number, so that you don't miss anything. I had tea at the Kikugetsutei Teahouse, which I highly recommend. They served the matcha and sweets near the entrance in one main tatami room which had limited views. However, after your tea, you are free to walk through the teahouse, and there are spectacular views over a ridiculously picturesque pond with tiny pine-covered islands. I was there in early December and the red maples lining the pond were spectacular. Mt Shiun in the background throughout Ritsurin adds to the beauty.
On my second visit I went to the North Garden which is likely much more impressive in the late winter when the plum trees are blooming, or in the summer when the lotuses and irises are blooming. Still, there were beautiful red maples and the incredible pines that Ritsurin is famous for. If you are going in the fall and only have time for one side of the park, I'd suggest the South Garden.
If you want to explore both the South and North gardens, and experience the teahouse, then I'd suggest allocating at least 3 hours (I spent 2 hours in South Garden, and 1 hour in the North garden).
