Very Good - Could Be A Lot Better

点评：We went to see the animals. We saw animals. Sad, because this park has a lot of potential but I don't see an effort to make it better. Yes, this zoo has been in the news about concerns over animal welfare and visitor safety. From what I saw, the animals appear cared for and the area was safe. A number of areas were closed down. Don't do this unless you lower the price accordingly. We paid for a visit to the entire zoo, not just some sections. There were no snack bars open in the afternoon. There is a train, but it hasn't run for years. We didn't even get a map - I had to pull one out of the map recycle pile. Seeing animals in a zoo can be tricky. At times, animals do not want to know and they retreat into their inner quarters. Well they have feelings too. We saw the adult giraffe, but the baby chose to be inside. We saw the big male lion, but Mrs. Lion was hiding somewhere in the back. We got to see the rhino have dinner. The meerkats and penguins provided a lot of fun to watch their antics. We saw mountain lions crossing a bridge between their two areas. We saw one sea lion who seemed depressed (hey, what do I know?). Could not find the other one. Some of the water in the animal areas had a green tint - not sure what that was about. The windows into the sea lion enclosure were dirty. We didn't see the monkeys since we were told that they take them inside to feed them and give them medicine near closing time.
Overall, this was a very nice park, but it is clear to me that the management just doesn't seem to care. Get off your duff and do what it takes to make this a first class attraction. It certainly has the facilities to be that.
