点评:We found a charming, inexpensive, hotel just a five minute walk away, with the help of a local taxi driver. Taxis are everywhere and the opposite of difficult to hail, for a change. Shaolin is so famous, you might expect an enormous temple, highly decorated, with a great kung fu show, and the famous cave of Damo, or Bodhidharma, but lower your expectations and you won't be disappointed. The temple is small. The show was so-so but it had an interesting part with a few people from the audience invited onstage to do the same moves as the highly trained practitioners. That was pretty funny. The best part, we thought, was a little place behind the entrance to the kung fu demonstration hall where there's a Traditional Chinese Medicine show with practitioners. They sell tee-shirts and stuff but they also have TCM sachets for stopping nightmares, etc., and there are some TCM docs who do treatments on the spot and they proved to be gifted, talented, and effective. A friend had a sore back problem fixed fast. The sachet-selling TCM area was sponsored, oddly, by Coca-Cola, which seemed counter-intuitive. There's a lot of walking but you can rent a self-drive cart and you should do that because it's a long walk, otherwise.
