Spectacular frescoes, sculptures in a restored church.
Chiesa di Sant'Agostino的点评
点评:The church's interior belies the somewhat plain exterior. Damaged in the 2012 earthquake, the church is now reopened, allowing visitors to see once again the wonderful fresco program on the Baroque ceilings.
The wall frescoes of Tommasa do Modena mix Giotto's realism with Gothic elegance. The terracotta Lamentation of 1524, by Antonio Begarelli, was innovative -- one of the first terracotta works to use free-standing figures, nearly life-size, grouped together above altars in the chapels and apparently intended to replace pictures. While others had used the innovation, Begarelli painted his figures, at times outlining edges of clothes and decorative details in gold.
