点评:I scheduled our visit at the end of day two in Kyoto, and sadly our feet hurt already before we even started our visit. We came here by bus and ended up walking halfway around the outside before even reaching the main gates. Leaving, we used the subway, which was much easier. We purchased a ticket upon arrival which allowed us to visit the grounds and the Ninomaru-goten Palace, but didn't have reservations to visit the Honmaru-goten Palace. Kyoto is such an amazing city, but there is so much to see that you do need to prioritize if you are only here for a few days. We visited Himeji castle the day before, so probably could have skipped Nijo castle. If you decide to go, I would buy the ticket that includes the Palace. Castle admission ticket + Ninomaru-goten Palace ticket is 1,300 yen, so just 500 yen more than the grounds alone, and definitely worth it (about $3 USD). All of the 17 UNESCO world heritage sites in Kyoto are very reasonably priced, and most of them only accept local cash currency.
