点评:Inari Shrine in southern Kyoto is one of the larger regional shrines in the area. The entrance is guarded by statues of Kitsune. Dedicated to the deity for abundance in finance and business, the shrine also has a smaller altar for academic success. The shrine is an active place of worship and visitors are welcome to pray or mill about, but please be respectful. Above the shrine, higher up on the hill, is where the Torii gates begin. If you really want to learn the religious aspects or history of the shrine, I encourage you to do a tour or get a guide.
This can be a short visit if you skip spending time at the shrine and just do the lowest set of Torii gates. Otherwise, expect to spend around 2.5 hours here or more. This location draws large numbers of tourists, so expect a crowd no matter when you go.
The Torii gates have multiple pathways and can go up to the top of the mountain/hill. There are a number of stairs and some of the pathways are uneven and not all paved (can also be earth or mixed gravel). I saw one short elevator but it only went from the shrine to the base of the gates. This can be light to moderate hiking up the hill, and a lot of walking, so if you have mobility issues or other physical imitations, this site is worth your time but I suggest you plan accordingly.
Restrooms are sporadic, as is access to drinking water, so pack your water and use the map if you plan to need the restrooms.
This exceeded all my expectations- do not skip this site!
