点评:I tried to enter this property despite the prohibitive price (850 rupees for foreigners, 400 for Indians). My goal was to photograph in accordance with the entry sign stating that photos without flash were allowed, but not videos. Despite this, ticket sellers told me that cameras were not allowed, but only mobile phones (!!) I do not use. It’s really a stupid whim, because the "mobailes" are dangerous, they can burn and explode, while the cameras are safe. So I renounced to visit this castle.
But I was not too disappointed because the Jai Vilas palace is certainly the least interesting monument in Gwalior. It is a kitsch monster that contains an accumulation of furniture and heterogeneous objects that do not show a very good taste. An example of this bad taste is the ridiculous silver (!) miniature train that serves drinks at the table.
Like many Indian princes, the local ruler was obviously swindled by architects, Western decorators and antique dealers who have certainly extorted colossal sums for a result that makes european people smile and can only impress naive locals or Anglo-saxons.
