Small, inexpensive museum - decent but not a "must see"
Nebraska History Museum的点评
点评:This is one of the smallest U.S. state history museums I have been to. Typically, I spend 3+ hours in a state museum. My visit to this museum lasted about 30 minutes. Museum admission is modestly priced ($5 at the time of writing in Oct. 2024) - appropriate given the size.
I had expected (and would have liked) some sort of conventional, chronologically arranged display (e.g., ancient geological history, first people settling the land, what opportunities/industries pulled various groups into the land/state through the years, key events in the state's history, etc.). While the museum has some interesting artifacts on display and a couple decent special exhibits, I found it difficult to come away from this museum with a good understanding/overview of Nebraska's history. Perhaps if I had read every sign/placard closely, I would have been better able to "assemble" such an understanding.
That this particular history museum does not cover geological and natural history makes sense - in that the nearby University of NE State Museum covers the natural history of NE in depth.
I found the museum interesting overall. But I would have appreciated knowing in advance that this is small/quick history museum vs. a "half day" site. The exhibits make this a worthwhile stop for out of state tourists if already in Lincoln looking for sites to see, but I did not feel the museum merited a special detour.
The museum is a short walk north from the Capitol building (10 mins); and one can also walk farther north from this museum through the U of NE campus to the State Museum at Morrill Hall. There are several good spots to grab lunch near the museum.
