点评:Friends recommended seeing the Big Well knowing that we were traveling through Kansas and taking in roadside attractions. The Big Well is the largest hand dug well in the United States and labeled one of the 8 wonders of Kansas. The well is completely housed in a museum/visitor center. There is off street free parking near the museum. There is a fee to enter the building ($6 a person for seniors). The museum is staffed so people are on site to provide information and answering questions. The highlight of the museum is the ability to walk down into the well using stairs built into the well. You can also walk above the well using another set of stairs to get and aerial view of the site. It is about 100 stairs total. The well is surrounded by historical displays about Greenburg, KS. You can guide yourself through the exhibits. They are well marked and provide information signs along the way. While the well is a focus of much of the historical display, Greenburg was also devasted by a tornado (in 2007?) so another big part of the display is the story of that tragedy and how the town rebuilt itself. There is a nice gift shop in the museum with a variety of souvenirs and local products. There are clean restrooms on site as well.
