Best Starting Point for Exploring Ypres
Market Square的点评
点评：The market square (Grote Markt) in the centre of Ypres is the best starting point for exploring the city.
It is dominated by the medieval Cloth Hall and the 13th century St Martins Cathedral (both were all but levelled during the WWI bombing but have been entirely rebuilt).
We started at the Ypres Tourist Centre which is located inside the Cloth Hall on the ground floor. It was well stocked with free maps and brochures and there were several staff who are all available to assist.
We stayed just a coupe of streets away from the square so we walked here for dinner. There’s a string of restaurants and bars, all with outside seating that looks across the square. We had an excellent dinner at In 't Klein Stadhuis, which is tucked into the corner next to the Cloth Hall.
If you can, try to stay close by the square. We stayed on Oude Houtmarktstraat, which was just a short 5 minutes walk to the square and it meant that we could walk to all of the main sights, including the Menin gate, very easily.
