点评:I'm afraid I have to agree wholeheartedly with the previous reviewer - Whoever owns Castle Hill estate has given far more thought as to how to corral visitors well away from their precious house & private grounds than welcome & guide them efficiently around the areas which are open. The map provided is actually worse than useless given that it gives no indication of the location of steep hills around the estate, leading to lots of wasted effort trudging up & down paths to try to find the various follies & statues.
Those looking for the sight of traditional flower beds in these gardens are going to be disappointed to find that 5 minutes into your visit, you've actually walked past them all, leaving just a large network of very hilly woodland paths - some grassy, some stony/tarmac - to amble through. Apart from providing a name for each garden feature, no attempt is made to provide any insight into the origin or meaning of any of them. By the time you get back to the cafe cum ticket kiosk, you may be wondering, as you eat your rather minimalist cream tea, why you allowed yourself to be parted with £8.50 for the privilege of seeing one herbaceous border, use some unloved & poorly appointed toilet facilities & be allowed to walk up & down some steep woodland paths that you could find in any open access wood in the countryside.
Judging by the number of large scale musical & drama events advertised here around the year, catering for humble garden visitors clearly features quite low down on the owners' priority list. I would advise potential garden visitors to consider reciprocating those sentiments.
