Obed Wild & Scenic River的点评
点评：We started at the National Park Service visitor center in downtown Wartburg and the park rangers there were very helpful. We enjoyed the short film.
We drove down a windy two-lane road to the Nemo Picnic Area which has a tiny beach on the Emory River. We walked across the historic Nemo pedestrian bridge and got great views of the river below. Then we went back to the car and drove across the river and down the gravel driveway to the Rock Creek Campground parking area. From there we walked the Cumberland Trail uphill (I recommend taking a hiking stick) to some very impressive rock formations. When the trail forked, we turned right onto the Emory River Nature Trail which went downhill and came out at the river. This whole trail was very pretty. We spent about two hours total in the Nemo area.
After retracing our drive back to Wartburg and lunch at Tanner’s Historic Café, we drove to the Lilly Bridge and parked there (there are small parking areas on both ends of the bridge). We hiked part of the Bridge Trail, saw a waterfall, and came out at the climbing area and watched some rock climbers for a few minutes. Then we went back to the car and drove to the Lilly Bluff parking lot. From there we hiked the Boulder Trail which went downhill and crossed the road and came out in a field of large boulders. Then we backtracked to the parking lot and took the Overlook Trail. This was a short easy walk to a large boardwalk overlooking the canyon and creek below. These trails were also pretty. We spent two hours total at the Lilly area.
All in all it was a very enjoyable day of light hiking and beautiful scenery. There had been a major storm two nights before so the water was high, and the 17-year cicada brood could be heard loudly buzzing. The Obed recreation area also can be used for whitewater kayaking or canoeing but we did not try any of that.
