Spectacular scenery and Sika deer!
层云峡的点评
点评：I stayed in Sounkyo for 2 days at the beginning of March 2024. I would like to come back in the spring, summer and Autumn!
I arrived by bus from Lake Akan (you need to reserve a seat in advance). I was the only passenger that got off the bus at Sounkyo - I was greeted by Sika deer that were feeding in the town! I asked in the convenience store about the hotel I had booked - the lady told me that it was about 15 minutes away, up a steep, winding road, covered in snow and ice! She also told me there were no taxis! I was thinking how I was going to get to the hotel with all of my luggage! A man that must have overheard my conversation offered me a lift up to the hotel! The kindness shown to me by the locals was fantastic. My mistake - I should have done better research and contacted the hotel ahead of time.
The next day the weather was fantastic - clear blue skies and very little wind. I took the Mt. Kurodake cable-car around 10am - there were only 3 other people in the gondola! The view from the observation platform on top of the cable-car station was amazing - 360 degree mountains as far as you could see. I was the only one on the observation deck! Skiers and snowboarders can take a chairlift which you can walk to from the top cable-car station. I saw some skiers that climbed further up Mt. Kurodake from the top of the chairlift!
