Real Mine, Real Work, Real Fun
Spectrum Sunstone Mine的点评
点评:The first thing to remember is that this is a working mine located in a very remote area of south Central Oregon. Bring all your own food and water.
Second, There’s absolutely no guarantee that you will find any choice stones (reds, schillers, greens). I’ve dug here before and have always appreciated the fact that Chris (the owner) and Denise (the manager) are straight shooters who disabuse folks of the notion that finding great material is a given.
Third, I love coming to Rabbit Basin and digging at Spectrum. It’s hard, hot, dirty work—it’s mining. The last time I visited I had very good luck digging in the Coyote pit. A handful of nice reds, a lot of great Schiller stones. But you have to work for it. I’ve talked to folks who have also had good luck sifting through their own pile, dumped via excavator by one of the staff; and I have seen people absolutely kill it on the belt run. And then again, sometimes folks get skunked. That’s mining!
If you are okay with “rustic and rough,” then go for it.
It’s all about adjusting your expectations: these are miners, not tour guides. The place is rough around the edges and gritty, but it’s also a rare, genuine experience that’s not for the faint of heart.
