点评:Worst place to visit in Morocco. The port smelled so violently that I gagged (not of fish but a sour, disgusting smell). The souks were cramped and the sellers rude. I went to look at a dog collar for sale, the price was 180 DH and when I noticed it was tarnished, I said I'd think and come back. The owner told me I wasn't welcome to return.
The food was ok but people would approach you trying to sell you things as you were eating. It was very jarring. Also, traditional bands would start randomly playing where you are and then demand money for their performance. You could completely ignore them and they'd just put their hand in your face as you ate. The shopkeepers would follow you down the souks to get you to go into their shop and pressure you to buy things. Would not return. It's described as being friendly and more relaxed than Marrakech but I'd stay in Marrakech over Essaouria anyday. The only good thing was that it was a bit cooler than Marrakech.
