Kauai Museum: Small on the Outside, Large on the Inside

点评：For such a small building, the Kauai Museum packs a lot interesting things to see. It covers the history, culture, and geology of Kauai from ancient times to the present.
One especially beautiful room features a large Hawaiian quilt and brightly colored feather standards called kahili. There is also a room full of carved wooden bowls, called calabashes, and an outrigger canoe suspended above the main room.
The museum also deals with the plantation era. I was especially taken with some of the furnishings from that time, including a desk lamp made from a seashell and a wall caving of leaves and fruit of the mango tree.
Another section of the museum has exhibits about surfing as well as an exhibit about Hollywood and Hawaii.
There are many explanatory signs with lots of information. I photographed them and read them later, because there was so much information that I couldn't have read it all during our visit. Some of the information was about subjects you'd expect to find in a Hawaiian museum, such as hula. Other signs were more surprising, such as one about a Russian fort and a train robbery.
The museum has a small but excellent shop. The shop includes both books and art objects. I bought some gifts and I also got a game board for a traditional Hawaiian game.
