点评:This striking building has apparently become the modern symbol of the city and is known by Rigans as the Castle of Light. It’s a shortish walk across from the old town. Entry is free and unless you’re an avid bookworm, most tourists come to experience the 11th/12th floor viewing gallery. There’s not a lot to see inside aside from that, it’s a library at the end of the day, though it’s worth a trip over to get a closer look at the exterior design, and there’s a lovely bronze sculpture ‘Two Rainis’ immediately opposite. Check before you go that there are no private events on, there was during my visit, and the blasted viewing gallery was closed! On arrival you have to take a numbered ticket and wait to be called to receive a pass to enter. Bags must be left in a cloakroom or in lockers (returnable €1). A rather nice backstory to the building - when the bulk of the books were shifted from the original library in the old town in 2014 - more than 14,000 people formed a human chain across the Akmens Tilts (Bridge) to transport them to their futuristic new home.
