点评:Where to start? There are many spectacular monuments in India but what made this one special was the opportunity to see so many different artistic and historical aspects in one location. There are of course the extensive fortifications, but then there are the "public' spaces where dignitaries would arrive upon their elephants in days past, the private women's spaces, each wife consort with their own private staircases for visits with the Raja and ramps for carrying them in palanquins , and of course the carved grill work that would allow the women to see without being seen. The oh so impressive official receiving spaces (elaborate marble and sandstone carvings, mirrored hall and stained glass windows) , the elaborate and ingenious ways water was not only captured and lifted from far below but used in all the uual ways water is used for gardens and in a household or palace but also for keeping the living apartments cool. I truly felt like I got a genuine glimpse into what life could have been like for not only the royals but also for the servants behind the scenes. Plan on several hours if you really want an indepth tour, but of course you can also take the much quicker but superficial tour and still be impressed.
