点评:Surprisingly good. Quite a lot to see and learn about when you visit. The castle grounds are quite expansive. They had one the gateways closed near the main car park so had to walk round, but generally it turns out that's the main route anyway from there. You walk along a suspended walkway to the inner castle building being able to see damage caused by the most recent earthquake.
Once inside the main castle you can see the efforts made to help preserve the castle today with modern seismic pillars to help support the structure during earthquakes and also information boards on each floor in English and Japanese about the castle’s history, construction, restoration works and cultural significance today. I would recommend using an audio guide however or taking a guidebook round with you though as the information otherwise is quite sparse. The inside of the castle is quite modern and also well-lit and naturally floor space gets smaller with each floor upwards. At the top there is the observation room which offers good views over the city. You cannot spend too long here however as staff are present to help keep the flow of people moving and avoiding bottle necks with crowds.
There is a souvenir shop in the inner courtyard where you can purchase guidebooks to learn more about the castle and its history as well as some Kumamoto castle themed goods which are unique. I wouldn't say its overly expensive but then again its certainly not cheap either.
