Clean, quiet at night, lovely beach and bike trails

点评：Very nice state park, beautiful woods with oaks, pines and hemlocks.
It is dog-friendly and we enjoyed the beach with ours. No dogs allowed on the swimming beach itself but there is plenty of beach to explore outside of that area. Dogs have to be on 6 foot leash. We were surprised that in spite of a large number of dogs in the campground, there was very little barking and most people cleaned up after their dogs.
We had read reviews that said the showers were not nice, claiming they were rusty. While there was a bit of iron stain on the tile walls, the showers were absolutely fine and kept clean. Bathrooms were kept clean as well.
Be aware, there is a lot of poison ivy along roads and other areas. Did not see any around campsites. As long as you know what it looks like, it’s easy to avoid.
Other campers were friendly and it was very quiet at night. Lots of bikes, which one would expect with all the bikes trails nearby. We rode them, the trails themselves were nice and it’s a good way to get around although we typically would prefer something further from road traffic and the noise that goes with it.
We hiked one of the trails in the campground and it was lovely. We also spent some time on the beach which is very nice. Saw quite a few species of birds and heard owls at night. The campground has many squirrels that can get into food left out if campers don’t keep their campsite clean. They were also knocking acorns off the trees onto the camper which was loud and sometimes startling but not a problem unless you don’t want to wake up as early as they do in the morning.
We were camped in the Tannery Creek campground. Campsites vary greatly in size and some have low spots that can collect water. But they had paved pads for the camper to sit on so the low areas would only be an issue for tents set up on the ground.
We were there the week before Labor Day and there were quite a few open sites but they filled up for the weekend and it was packed.
