点评:My family and I visited Ringwood State Park yesterday to see the Ringwood Manor estate and the New Jersey Botanical Gardens. We were excited to explore because we’d never been before and had driven a couple hours to get there.
When we arrived, there was no sign at the park entrance or in Lot A indicating that the manor area was closed for a private event. After walking to the front of the estate, we saw only a small notice near the front estate driveway saying visitors couldn’t go past a certain point, so we walked quietly around the side lawn along with other guests just to admire the architecture and landscaping from a distance.
A woman came out from inside the house and told us (and another couple) that we had to leave the entire lawn because of a wedding. She did so politely, but this was confusing because there was no visible evidence of an event taking place; no wedding party, no setup, no tables, tents, or decorations anywhere on the lawn or near the house. The grounds were open and quiet, and the only indication of an event was that single small sign by the front driveway. If the estate or back lawn is ever reserved for private functions, clear advance signage or roped areas at the parking lot and other walkways would be appreciated, prevent misunderstandings and spare visitors a wasted trip.
I also wanted to mention that the gardens themselves appeared significantly less maintained than expected from the official photos, beds were overgrown, some areas looked neglected, and a statue called Swan Boy was broken and left in place. I understand autumn brings seasonal die-back, but the overall impression was of an area needing care and upkeep.
Ringwood Manor is a beautiful historic site, and I’m sharing this feedback so the public and event guests can both enjoy it without confusion.
