Cartmel Racecourse的点评
点评：I will start this review with a bit of context.
On the Saturday of the Bank Holiday weekend we chose Haydock over Cartmel. It was £9 cheaper to watch some of the best horses in the country, safe in the knowledge that if it rained we could watch sheltered from the elements. Cartmel on the other hand is in an unsheltered field with some of the worse racehorses in the country.
Whilst at Cartmel you can take your own drink the price at the bars are the same.
Now onto yesterday ( the Wednesday night meeting).
We arrived at the railway station to be greeted by the buses. They have literally gone from £5 return last year to £5 single this year.
On the course they had decided to make it a one price fits all for the day. ( speaking to people who had bought in advance they weren't getting any refund.
What surprised me more than anything was how the beer tents ( where you used to be able to shelter from the elements were no more, they now just had 2 small beer ' kiosks' one on the course side, the other on the paddock side. The paddock had 4 staff members serving, the course just 2. The prices for a pint of madri were different. £7 in the paddock. £5.50 on the course. Very strange. Lucky it wasn't raining because there would have been nowhere to drink them and keep dry.
There are party tents you can hire ( prices have increased dramatically) and for some strange reason picnic benches. Which for this meeting ( probably due to nobody purchasing them ) were free.
The standard of racing was again poor.
It now seems that they aren't interested in the everyday family attending, it's all about the high end hospitality. We won't be back unless things improve, it's a lot more enjoyable at Carlisle and Haydock, it's cheaper, better horses and the added bonus of somewhere to keep dry
