点评:Some time ago, I had seen this site highlighted on one of the original big-3 TV networks and “saved” it on my cellphone in the “want to go” category. So, when I motored to a family event in Lake SpringsMO-USA, my primary route Eastbound was I-80 (and I-70/US50 the other direction). NW Kansas was pretty much right along the way, though it did necessitate some winding to it via back roads.
Anyway, this site is about 3 or 4 blocks square, with numerous historical markers on the two main streets, US24/South Street and Washington, between 1st & 4th streets. The principal display is inside the national park’s Visitor Center, which, unfortunately, was closed due to the USA Federal government being shut down. BUT that disruption seemed minor because there are many historical markers/plaques about the significance of this initial crucially progressive community for African-Americans. Indeed, it continues to be a distant anchor for contemporary progressive racial relations. Since the Visitor’s Center was closed, I found 3-4 hours more than satisfied my exploration.
