点评:We really liked Bayon Temple & Angkor Thom but the best part for us was the 50 km roundtrip bike ride from Siem Reap town, past the tiny villages situated within the UNESCO Heritage site, steering between tree roots & tall grasses, through mud, sand, water & rutted pathways in the forest surround the various Angkor Temples. It was a super challenging & heart thumping ride but our guide was very familiar with the route, having grown up in one of these small villages. The entrance to the temple area is impressive with 50 carved faces of gods & demons on the causeway crossing the Angkor Thom moat & then on through the south gate entry (known in Khmer as Tonle Om). We biked past the Terrace of The Elephants next to the Bayon Temple which has a long line of beautifully carved elephants & then doubled back to lock our bikes to join the crowd of fellow visitors, some wearing traditional Khmer clothing for Instagram shots, and then climbed across the uneven paths, old steps & admired the resiliency of this very ancient structure of Khmer architecture (over 800 years old) & its sandstone carving of the serenely smiling 4-faced tower overlooking the loooong, forested bike path back to Siem Reap & the very unique manner in which we traveled here!
