Reconnect with your God, clear your mind, and give your mental health a boost
St Patrick's Purgatory, Lough Derg的点评
点评:I went to St. Patrick's Purgatory on Lough Derg on the 13th of August this year (2025) to take part in the three day pilgrimage. This pilgrimage I would recommend to everyone from any religious background and none, even though it is a Catholic pilgrimage, all faiths are welcomed, and in fact when I was there I had conversations with a Methodist, and a Hindu, and people from Italy, Germany, England and the Philippines. Briefly, its an opportunity to leave the pressures and problems of modern life behind for three days, and an opportunity to reconnect with your God, or maybe to just 'clear your head' (by the way, you can't take mobile phones or other 21st century gadgets onto the island) while there, pilgrims will fast from all food apart from two Lough Derg meals, which consist of black tea or coffee, and dry toast and oat biscuits, they will also on arrival remove shoes and socks and spend the next three days completely bare footed indoors and out while taking part in prayer rituals, and walking over rough and stoney ground, which were the remains of ancient monastic Beehive stone houses. While there is saw teenagers, and people in there seventies complete the three days pilgrimage, so it will basically suit anyone as long as they don't have any medical conditions. Do definitely check it out. There's plenty of information online about it. Five stars from me.
