点评:Had actually completely forgotten that this spectacular beech hedge was on this road ( A93) - so it was a very pleasant surprise to rediscover it. Photos simply do not do justice to the amazing , towering sight of what is the tallest and longest hedge in the world 🌏, as recognised by the Guinness Book of Records. Apparently it ranges in height from 120 ft at the northern end, to 80ft at the southern end. Lengthwise it’s 530 metres - which is approximately a third of a mile.
It was planted in the autumn of 1745 by men who went to battle at Culloden in 1746, and sadly never returned, so also serves as a living memorial to these long-gone patriots. As you might imagine , it takes a lot of work and money to keep on top of the maintenance and upkeep - but it’s truly a unique and awe-inspiring sight.
