点评：The full-day round-island tour turned out to be the sort of insightful, rewarding experience which makes travel worthwhile (and cycling for that matter).
Penang's charming, authentic side is far outside the tourist machinery of Georgetown. By bike, you can glide through the peaceful kampongs and idyllic beaches which are unimaginable among the melee of cruise ship day trippers in the city. It's hard to believe they're all on the same island. There are two moderate climbs to sweeten the deal, and you'll likely make contact with the island's road biking scene at the viewpoint on Bukit Genting pass. The roads are wide and in fair condition; traffic is light and the drivers are considerate. Departing before 06:30 meant virtually empty roads all day except the final 45 minutes returning to Georgetown.
Matt is a gifted guide: personable, knowledgeable and serious about your safety. He shows you corners of the Penang which you'd only find with a locals help, from scenic beaches for a quick swim to family-run village shops. It was easy to relax when your host has everything so utterly under control. The surprisingly high price makes perfect sense when you see the quality and extent of what's provided on the day, but most importantly because you get a one-in-a-million genuine travel memories.
