点评:I was appalled by the treatment of the Elephants I saw at the so-called Elephant "Conservation" Center. It seems the practices used here have not changed since the 70's when elephants were used to transport timber during deforestation of the region.
I saw small elephants being whipped and beaten, the mahouts carry metal spiked batons that are used to hit Elephants on the head so to subdue them into submission. In addition, all of the elephants are chained and not free to roam. There is no attempt to reintegrate these 'problem' elephants back into the wild and as the posters in the visitor center clearly stated, they are used for touristic purposes.
I urge you not to visit this place and I hope the government can implement the much needed changes and funding to improve the welfare of these magnificent creatures.
