Ashby De La Zouch Castle的点评
点评：Absolutely wonderful visit! We stopped at Ashby-de-la-Zouch to break a long journey, based on nothing but that we’d heard there was a castle there. We initially thought the fee was a little steep for a ruin - but we quickly realised we were wrong!
Despite it tipping down, we were immediately offered a free tour by Susan, and this was highly informative and entertaining. She quickly got us to fall in love with the place thanks to her wide knowledge of the castle and its history and her obvious passion for it.
The castle itself is wonderful, with lots of very well preserved architectural and decorative details that made it easy to imagine in its heyday - these combined with the steady flow of fascinating tales from Susan have made this one of our favourite ruin visits ever. We loved getting to climb the tower (at least as far as the nesting peregrines would allow) as this is so unusual to be allowed, and the tunnel underneath the castle is astonishing - such a unique experience.
We left with a newfound love of Ashby-de-la-Zouch castle, a plan to return, and a lovely bottle of cherry wine. Truly an amazing trip! Huge thanks to Susan.
