A fun Saturday on the Sugar Express!

点评：A great trip behind a historic steam engine to Lake Placid & return. We booked the all day trip with 2 hours in Lake Placid for shopping and lunch. Everyone was friendly from the person greeting us in the parking lot (who we later discovered was the General Manager) to the on-board personnel.
We chose the open air car which has outward facing benches for a great view of the passing scenery. The trip through the sugar cane fields was quite interesting as the harvest season was in full swing.
You detrain in Lake Placid at the former railroad station, now the Historical Society Museum.
The restaurants and farmers market are under a 10 minute walk up to Main Ave.

My wife was even able to do some mobile birding as we rolled along.
On board staff was quite helpful and walked through several times handing out chips & cookies. The Gift Shop is in the baggage car with lots of hats & t-shirts. There are also several coolers of water in the baggage car.
These trips operate with a diesel locomotive on one end and the steam engine on the other. On this day the steam engine led the train back to Clewiston.
The Sugar Express offers multiple trips to several locations on it's line. (A short 2 hour ice cream social trip was running the day after we rode.)
A great family fun day for those in the area.
