点评:This show was highly recommended by our Newfoundland Tourism agent for Newfoundland music, stories and hilarity, so ofc we bought tickets straightaway since we were told they often sold out. Indeed, the show WAS sold out - the Anchor Pub was jam packed.
We learned very quickly that 'Newfoundland music' had a much broader range beyond sea shanties, Irish trad tunes, and Great Big Sea/Alan Doyle - did not expect to hear the extent of rock/country inspo that we did. Jokes like rubbing sore bums and the Queen were fine, just passé - they may want to consider updating their schtick. The audience was majority an older (white-haired) crowd, so the "storytelling and hilarity" might have resonated better there ... it was more of an 'amused smile' vs 'bust a gut' type of simple comedy for our group. We'd had more fun at Sullivan's Songhouse earlier (which was also much cheaper as well, though Sullivan's had only 3 musicians and needed less production).
That said, the Anchors Aweigh musicians were incredibly talented, and the drummer is amazing. The audience lapped up the crowd work at the end. when they tried to play a piece from every province/country the audience were from.
Do I regret going? No. Would I buy tickets to see this show again? Probably not.
